The Power of Community to Learn, Grow and Create Change

Tara Cull from ArchiEnglish, (long-time friend of My First Architecture Job), recently launched a podcast called ‘Think Big’ which focuses on “learning more about architecture while discovering how to develop a mindset of success and how to speak with confidence, as a learner of English.”

Topics include: the language architects use, business communication, the language of presenting and clearly communicating ideas, architectural projects and resources, job-seeking and interview strategies and interviews with some kick-arse architects, landscape architects and other professionals.

It was my pleasure to be Tara’s guest for episode 18. Listen below to hear us chat about the power of community to learn, grow and create change as an emerging architect.

In the episode we discuss:

  • The Emerging Architects Prize

  • The book 101 Things I Didn’t Learn in Architecture School and her membership program The Architecture Project

  • Challenges that international architects face in Australia

  • Tips for international architects who speak English as a second language and why diversity in Architecture is important
